What We Believe

At 217 Law, the principles below define who we are as a firm and guide everything we do. They shape how we serve our clients, treat others with professionalism and respect, support one another as a team, give back to our community, and approach the practice of law.

  • We understand that every case represents a person going through one of the most difficult periods of their life. We never lose sight of that. We take the time to listen, answer questions, and make sure every client understands what is happening in their case. We believe legal representation begins with understanding the person behind the case, not just the facts on paper.

  • Our job is not to tell people what they want to hear. It is to give them the practical advice they need to make informed legal decisions. That means being honest about the strengths of a case, the risks involved, and the options available. We believe trust is built through straightforward conversations, realistic expectations, and transparent advice.

  • The legal profession is adversarial by nature, but it doesn’t have to lack respect, professionalism, and civility. In fact, we believe respect, professionalism, and civility make lawyers more effective, not less. This is why we treat clients, opposing parties, other lawyers, court staff, witnesses, and everyone else involved in a case with respect, courtesy, and dignity.

  • Standing up for our clients is at the heart of what we do. Whether we’re negotiating with an insurance company, litigating against a large corporation, defending against charges filed by the government, or advocating for someone in a family dispute, we believe our clients deserve an advocate who won’t be intimidated. We don’t shy away from difficult cases, difficult conversations, or difficult opponents.

  • Great teams are built when people are willing to do whatever is needed, regardless of their title. We believe no task is beneath anyone if it helps serve a client or support a teammate. By working together, sharing responsibilities, and putting the success of the team ahead of individual recognition, we create a stronger firm and a better experience for every client.

  • Practicing law is challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. Every day, we have the opportunity to help people through difficult times, solve complex problems, and make meaningful differences in the lives of others. We believe people do their best work when they genuinely enjoy what they do, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve our clients every day.

  • The work we do is serious, but that doesn’t mean we have to take ourselves too seriously. We celebrate successes, support one another, and don’t mind sharing a laugh along the way. We believe a positive, supportive, and lighthearted workplace helps us strengthen our team while helping to better serve our clients.

  • Central Illinois is our home. We believe in supporting the communities that support us, building lasting relationships, and being the kind of neighbors people are proud to recommend. Success isn’t measured only by the cases we win and results we achieve, but also by the positive impact we have on the people and community we serve.
